Installers needed to install free CO & smoke detectors

Healthy Homes and the Garfield Park Neighborhood Association are entering into a collaborative partnership to improve the safety of homes within our area. We need volunteers to make this collaboration work. If you are willing to be a Volunteer Installer of free smoke detectors and free carbon monoxide alarms get involved!

Volunteer Installers go into families’ homes and install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. These volunteers share important fire and carbon monoxide safety information with residents as well.

Required skills:

  • Ability to communicate
  • Desire to improve safety in homes with children
  • Lack of fear operating a power drill
  • Ability to give four hours per month to volunteer installations
  • Willingness to learn Required training is one hour on site and to observe an actual home installation

Tools and supplies are provided. Volunteers will be sent in pairs or with a Healthy Home staff member to make the installations. Each installation usually lasts two hours. This is a wonderful opportunity to assist neighbors and their children within the Garfield Park area and collect some volunteer “Brownie Points”.
